According to the statement that "the service life of full trailers and dangerous goods transportation semi trailers is 10 years, the service life of container semi trailers is 20 years, and the service life of other semi trailers is 15 years", by the end of this year, 17.5 large board cars may be forced to be scrapped and withdrawn from the stage of history.

According to the initial definition of 17.5 large board car, the width of its cargo compartment is 3M and the length is 17.5m, which is beyond the reach of other models. In addition, the low flat board car has strong cargo accommodation, so 17.5 large board car has obtained huge loading capacity.

Under the temptation of interests, pull-out and pseudo high hurdle 17.5 scooters also appeared, unlocking more transportation possibilities. Its loading capacity even reached the horror level of 300 m3, which can almost catch up with the loading capacity of two 13.5 scooters.

But at the same time, its own problems are becoming more and more obvious:

1. Super length, width and height affect the line of sight, occupy the lane, inconvenient turning, affect the traffic efficiency and are not conducive to traffic safety;

2. The standard models in the market cannot compete with them in terms of cargo loading, which is unfair to other car owners;

3. 17.5 the freight of the large plate is generally not high, resulting in no goods for other standard models;

4. It has seriously disturbed the order of the transportation market and led to the continuous decline of freight in the freight industry to a certain extent.

From the perspective of regulations, the last batch of 17.5 large board cars licensed did reach the mandatory scrapping time node in July 2022. Will they really be scrapped?

To be honest, it can only be said to be "possible", but not "all". Why?

1. The actual deadline for licensing is inconsistent.

According to some car owners, only some 17.5 large plates with general qualifications were revoked in the announcement in 2007, and some large plates with "only for the transportation of non detachable objects" and large plates with unequal width at the front and back of the gooseneck have been sold for several years. There are 17.5 large plates registered after 2010 in the current freight market. The retirement life of these vehicles will have to be extended for a few years. Therefore, it is impossible to scrap all at once by the end of this year.

2. The phenomenon of deck and cloning is serious.

17.5 the big board has always been the hardest hit area of the deck. Since there was no announcement of heavy-duty low flat semi-trailer (ordinary goods) after 2007, the market demand for 17.5 large plate was large again, so clone cars and deck cars appeared. The trailer factory as like as two peas, cloned the same old car, and even identified the trailer identity frame number as "duplicate". It was impossible to see it without looking at it carefully. A license plate procedure was applied by one company, or even a direct license plate procedure was used on multiple trailers. This also resulted in the number of 17.5 boards being reduced and increased after years of cancellation.

3. The old model has not been returned, and the new model has taken over.

17.5 before the scrapping deadline of the large plate has been reached, a new "super" trailer has appeared. In order to increase sales, some Trailer factories offer "super" temporary license services when buying cars, but most of these cars are engaged in general cargo transportation.

Although it is unrealistic to say that all 17.5 large board cars are scrapped at one time, according to the provisions on compulsory scrapping standards for motor vehicles, its elimination is a certainty, which is only a process of time. Recently, Shandong, Shanghai and other provinces do not allow 17.5 large board cars to go on high-speed, which may be a signal. After the withdrawal of 17.5 large board cars, 13.75 large board cars may become alternative models.

It is worth noting that the 13.75 scooter can only be used to transport large non detachable objects, that is, it is illegal to use this model to engage in LCL, lvtong and other common goods. Once the relevant departments invest in governance, such as "four penalties for one overload", many vehicles may be idle. It is suggested that all car owners should follow the general law of industry development, and compliant vehicles can be more conducive to the long-term development of the freight market.
