The axle can be integral, shaped like a large barbell, or it can be disconnected, like two umbrellas inserted on both sides of the vehicle body. Depending on the driving mode, the axle can also be divided into a drive axle, a steering axle, a steering drive axle, and a support axle.

In general, whether it is a semi trailer, a full trailer, or a center axle trailer, its role is to provide cargo loading space. In most cases, it does not have driving power and needs to rely on the power of the tractor to achieve driving. Therefore, most of the axles on the trailer do not need to have driving power, belonging to a supporting axle, which can also be called a driven axle.

Support bridge is a type of integral axle, mainly composed of axle beams, camshafts, metal support seats, brake assemblies, wheel end assemblies, and other components. The structural design is relatively simple. Integrated axle beams can provide greater bearing and torque, and are often used in conjunction with non independent suspension to meet the transportation needs of vehicles. Daily maintenance is also more convenient, suitable for owners who require high vehicle attendance.

Although trailer axles are both support axles, their models and specifications are very diverse, which is also to meet the use needs of different transportation conditions. Generally, the common types of trailer axles include the following:

Disc axles were previously used mostly on passenger vehicles. After GB7258 was updated, it was required that all three axle railings and semi trailers must use disc brakes.

The biggest characteristics of disc axle are light weight, fast heat dissipation, fast braking response, good linear stability, and strong resistance to heat and water attenuation. The disadvantage is that the braking force is relatively small, which is not suitable for heavy cargo transportation. Some transportation conditions that require high protection of goods, such as hazardous chemicals transportation, precision instrument transportation, precious goods transportation, vegetables, fruits, flowers transportation, etc., are suitable for the use of disk axles.

Drum type axle is the most familiar axle for freight car owners, and it is also the most widely used type on trailers. It can be almost used in transportation conditions for various types of goods with low requirements for damage. Its technical conditions are relatively mature, and its sales price is cheaper. In addition, its accessories are universal, easy to buy and replace, and maintenance is relatively convenient.

The drum axle is equipped with a sealed brake drum, which can provide more sufficient braking force. The disadvantage is that the heat attenuation and water attenuation are relatively obvious, and the stability is not as good as the disc axle. Generally, drum type vehicle bridges are particularly suitable for the transportation of heavy goods, such as coal, wood, gravel, steel, cement, and so on.

Low platform vehicle bridge is a special vehicle bridge for large platform vehicles, characterized by low ground clearance, low center of gravity, high wall thickness, and high strength. It can provide sufficient support, improve transportation stability, and enhance the convenience of goods getting on and off. It is generally used for the transportation of large and non detachable goods such as mechanical equipment, large tanks, building materials equipment, and power station equipment.

The concave axle, also known as the eccentric axle, as the name suggests, has an axle beam that is not on the same horizontal line as the center of the wheel end. Through the inverted door shaped design, the vehicle chassis height is further lowered.

The concave axle also reduces the height of the carriage to a certain extent, which can increase the loading space of the cargo compartment within the scope of regulations. It is mostly used on car carriers, and some models that have requirements for the center of gravity of the vehicle can also be applied. The disadvantage is that the vehicle's ability to cope with complex road conditions is poor, especially on uneven road sections, which are prone to bumping the chassis and have high requirements for transportation road conditions.

The three line six axle axle axle is a special type of axle for large or extra-large transportation vehicles, with a super load bearing capacity of around 80t. If it is a four line eight axle or a five line ten axle model, the load bearing capacity is stronger, even reaching hundreds of tons or hundreds of tons.
