The body shakes when you step on the brake? We need to find the reason from these points

Vehicle shivering is a problem many drivers have encountered. Especially when the vehicle brakes, once the brake is pressed, the vehicle body will shake. Although sometimes it does not affect the deceleration or stop of the vehicle, it is somewhat worrying. After all, vehicle braking is directly related to driving safety.

Generally, the vehicle shivering when stepping on the brake is closely related to the brake system and chassis components. The specific reasons can be found from the following aspects.

1. Brake eccentric wear

The wheels on both sides of the vehicle are equipped with separate brakes. When the driver steps on the brake, the brake drums and brake pads at both ends shall work at the same time to continuously, evenly, persistently and stably output the brake force to slow down or stop the vehicle.

In actual use, due to driving habits, driving environment, brake pad material and other reasons, the brake pads at both ends may be worn to varying degrees. When the brake is pressed at this time, although the brakes at both ends can respond at the same time, the distribution of braking force will be uneven due to excessive wear of one side of the brake pad, which will cause the body to shake.

The same situation also occurred after the owner replaced one brake pad separately. When the car owner found that the brake pads on one side were excessively worn, he replaced the brake pads in a timely manner. However, because the wear degree of the newly replaced brake pads is still different from that of the brake pads on the other side that have been used for a period of time, it may also cause the body to brake.

2. Brake bump

If the driver is used to braking by means of intermittent braking for a long time, it will also cause the brake pad and the inner wall of the brake drum to appear concave and convex. Then when braking, the brake pads stick to the uneven brake drum and output uneven braking force, which will also cause the body to shake.

3. The brake pads are too hard

At present, there are many brands of brake pads on the market, and the quality is uneven. In particular, the brake pads produced by some unknown small factories do not match the original axle well enough, and the hardness is too high, which to some extent leads to high friction coefficient. As a result, the brake pads and brake drums will also shake when friction braking.

4. Brake drum is deformed and out of round

Generally, the service life of the brake drum is longer than that of the brake pad. However, if it is not used properly, the service life of the brake drum will also be shortened.

For example, if the water shower is often used to cool the drum brake when the brake drum is red and hot, it is easy to make the brake drum crack or texture. In the long run, the cracking will continue to expand, eventually causing the body to shake.

Another example is that the brake drum is subject to bumps or impacts in the hot red state. Due to the high temperature, the brake drum material is easy to become soft. At this time, the impact is very easy to cause the brake drum to deform and out of round, change its physical structure, and cause the brake to shake.

It is worth noting that compared with the deformation and out of roundness of the brake drum, its cracks or lines often need to be seen by removing the wheel end, which requires the driver to regularly check the brake drum, and remember to replace it in case of problems.

5. Modify the brake without permission

The "brake king" is a well-known existence in the industry. Many car owners on mountain roads have basically used it. Its working principle is to increase the amount of air passing through the brake master cylinder or relay valve to shorten the response time and enhance the braking force by increasing the amount of air passing.

Many drivers modify the "brake king" to improve the braking reliability of vehicles. It is not difficult to find that the braking effect of the "brake king" is achieved by controlling the air volume, and the basic braking principle has not changed. Although the driver subjectively feels that the braking force is coming fast, it has destroyed the coordination and balance of the original vehicle's braking system, lost the linear growth of the braking force, and led to insufficient air pressure and longer braking distance for some vehicles with slow inflation. In addition, blindly increase the amount of air passing to accelerate the abnormal wear of the brake, which may cause the brake to tremble, the parts to be damaged, or the vehicle brake to fail. These are very dangerous things.

At the same time, privately refitting the brake and increasing the air flow of the relay valve may also lead to the imbalance of the air pressure of the brake wheel cylinders on both sides, which may cause the deviation of the braking force of the wheels on both sides, and also cause the phenomenon of brake jitter.

In addition to the above reasons, such as deformation of the steel ring, loose bearing, uneven fitting of the brake drum and the steel ring, loose pull rod ball joint, unbalanced tire pressure, out of round/bulging/abnormal wear of the tire, etc., can also cause the body to shiver. The car owner should not be too alarmed, but should not ignore it. If you can't repair it by yourself, you can go to a professional maintenance station, which can generally be checked or improved.
