How many braking modes are there for trailer trailer? Which is safer?

With the introduction of C6 driver's license, passenger cars can also tow light trailers on the road, and many consumers choose trailer trailer for self driving tour.

Compared with the traditional integrated RV, the use efficiency of the trailer RV is higher. When it is not available, the RV can be separated from the tractor, and only the tractor can be used. When the RV is needed, it can be connected together.

The scientific name of trailer trailer is called "recreational trailer", which is essentially an automobile train. Although it is towed by passenger cars, it has improved a lot in driving difficulty, including braking mode, and is completely different from ordinary passenger cars.

Many car owners believe that trailer RV does not need to install a separate braking system, especially for the small size RV. Because of its small mass, it can rely on the tractor for braking, but in this case, the braking distance is longer than that of the passenger car alone, and the safety is too poor.

In addition, the motorhome does not have a braking system. When the tractor brakes, the motorhome will impact the chassis steel plate connected by the trailer bar with high strength, and the damage cannot be underestimated in the long run. In addition, once the emergency brake belt turns, even a small RV may roll out of control.

Therefore, even if the cost will increase after installing the brake system, it is better to use the brake system for the sake of happiness and safety of self driving travel.

Two types of RV brake systems:

1. Collision brake

Collision braking refers to a way to achieve braking through the impact between the recreational vehicle and the tractor.

The principle of brake impact is relatively simple: add a set of hydraulic brake that can squeeze at the position where the chassis of the two vehicles are connected. When the tractor brakes, the RV impacts the brake under the inertial action to compress it, pushing the brake oil to move to the slave cylinder. When the slave cylinder gets power, it will hold the brake pads to decelerate or stop.

To put it more generally, the brake impact is to use the impact of the front and rear cars instead of stepping on the brake pedal.

There are generally three steps in the process of using the brake:

Braking deceleration of the main car - the motorhome impacts the main car and squeezes the brake - instant high-strength braking

In this process, the tractor brakes first, and the RV gets braking by hitting the tractor. However, the moment the RV brakes, it is easy to generate the force to pull the tractor back, so this process is very non-linear.

This is also a disadvantage of collision braking. The safety is relatively poor, especially on slippery roads, there is still a high risk of runaway rollover. Secondly, the car owner cannot control the braking force. In some extreme cases, such as driving too fast, braking at corners or backing up from a slope to a slope, there is a certain danger.

As for the advantages of collision braking, the price is low and the structure is simple. As long as attention is paid to maintenance, the probability of system failure is very small.

2. Electromagnetic braking

Electromagnetic braking mainly controls the separation and braking of power transmission through DC. The synchronizer is connected with the brake system of the front car, so that the brake signals of the front and rear cars can be synchronized, that is, the brake force of the main car can be basically equivalent to that of the RV. When decelerating, there will be no high-strength impact or drag, and the braking process will become quite linear.

The effect of the electromagnetic brake is closely related to the controller. It is difficult for a poor controller to accurately adjust the brake force, even if it is adjusted well, it cannot be maintained, so it needs to be adjusted frequently.

The advantages of electromagnetic braking are that the braking effect is relatively stable, the safety is high, the braking force can be adjusted at any time, and it can adapt to the braking ability of different vehicles in front and the braking habits of different drivers. High specification electric brake can even automatically increase or decrease the braking force according to the road gradient based on the adjusted braking force to improve safety. In addition, the brake synchronizer is also equipped with an emergency switch to help the front car stop when the brake of the front car fails.

However, electromagnetic braking is not entirely without defects. The most obvious one is that the structure is complex and the price is naturally high; In addition, electromagnetic braking needs to install a brake synchronizer on the front vehicle, and the circuit connection is long, which may easily cause problems.
