The long disc brake is still hot when it goes downhill. You can get twice the result with half the effort if you choose the right one

Disc brake is a kind of braking method that is familiar to car owners. It is widely used in passenger cars. Its principle is to slow down or stop the vehicle by clamping the brake disc with calipers and causing friction between the brake pads and the brake disc.

When it comes to the advantages of disc brake, car owners are no strangers: light deadweight, sensitive braking, good heat dissipation. With air suspension, it can not only reduce the vehicle's deadweight, save fuel, but also improve the vehicle's running stability and reduce cargo damage. In addition, with the support of laws and regulations, the disc brake overtook the drum brake overnight, becoming a braking mode highly recommended.

It is worth noting that disc brake is not omnipotent. Some car owners think that the brake of the disc brake is exposed to the air and has better heat dissipation, so there will be no overheating problem.

In fact, in some road conditions that require continuous braking for a long time, such as long downhill, the disc brake will also appear red and hot.

However, the thermal attenuation performance of the disc brake is better than that of the drum brake, and it can provide relatively stable braking force even at high temperatures. But we have to admit that compared with the cold state, the braking force must be reduced. Secondly, the brake disc temperature is too high, which will also bring other dangers, such as excessive wear of friction parts, spontaneous combustion of shaft ends, etc.

In addition, the braking force of the disc brake is often criticized. Due to the small brake friction area of the disc axle, the braking force is inferior to that of the drum brake. This is one of the reasons why disc axle is widely used in passenger vehicles and less used in freight vehicles.

For the car owners who have adopted the disc axle, the following points must be paid attention to in daily use:

1. Under the road condition of continuous braking for a long time, use auxiliary braking to control the vehicle speed as much as possible, such as engine braking, exhaust braking, etc., to avoid excessive brake temperature.

2. When the brake is overheated, do not drop the temperature by spraying water to avoid damage to the brake caused by a large amount of cold water pouring on the red brake disc.

3. Install hydraulic retarder, ABS, EBS and other devices as far as possible to enhance braking strength and reliability while maintaining the response speed of disc brake, so that the vehicle can decelerate or stop smoothly in the shortest distance.

Finally, I would like to remind all car owners that the choice of braking mode should take into account the actual operating conditions of the vehicle and should not be followed by others. Although the disc brake is good, it may not be suitable for all transport vehicles. Especially for those car owners who often pull heavy goods, it may be more appropriate to use the drum axle with greater braking force.
