For trailer transportation, fuel consumption is an inseparable topic. After all, the size of vehicle fuel consumption is directly related to the owner's income. If the fuel consumption of a seemingly indistinguishable vehicle is several liters higher than others, it will almost cost thousands of dollars more for fuel after a long trip. I'm afraid it will earn tens of thousands of dollars less than others in a year. Now the freight is so low and the fuel consumption is high, which is really distressing.

Many car owners feel that there is something wrong with the tractor when they see that the fuel consumption is high. In fact, not only the tractor, many devices on the semi-trailer are also closely related to fuel consumption. Let's go and have a look with Darong axle.

1. Vehicle shape design.

When the trailer moves forward, the air flow ushers in from the front, forming a kind of resistance. Therefore, when designing, the vehicle manufacturer will generally fully calculate the wind resistance coefficient, such as the radian of the front of the cab, the air guide groove of the doors on both sides, the size of the vehicle bumper, etc., which will guide the wind resistance to a certain extent.


In addition, the overall dimension, height and width of tractor and semi-trailer will also be consistent, so as to reduce the wind resistance of the whole vehicle. Many car owners are willing to buy high roof models. In fact, this is also the reason. If the height of the tractor is small, the semi-trailer behind, whether it is the carriage or the placement of goods, cannot be too high, otherwise it will be added as the cover.

2. Main hitch connection clearance.

The clearance between the main trailers of trailers in Europe is generally small, because if the clearance is too large, it is easy to produce airflow during driving, enter the clearance to form a cyclone, and increase the driving wind resistance of vehicles. At the same time, the turning radius of the main Trailer should also be considered, so the position design of the trailer front probe and the tractor saddle and traction pin is very particular.

3. Matching and consistency of braking system.

The braking system of trailer is divided into two parts: main vehicle braking and semi-trailer braking. If the braking output of these two parts cannot match well, it is easy to push the head or drag the tail on the wet road. For example, if the main vehicle is equipped with ABS or EBS system and the semi-trailer is not equipped with it, it is easy to lock the wheels of the semi-trailer, swing the tail, and even roll over when turning sharply.

In addition, trailer braking is divided into disc brake and drum brake. Among them, disc brake has fast response speed and uniform braking force, but the braking force is small; Drum brake has strong braking force, but the response speed is slower than disc brake.

If the two are mixed, it is also prone to problems in the case of poor matching. For example, disc axles are mandatory for three axle grid and fence semi-trailer. If the matched tractor is equipped with drum axle, the braking force will be uneven. Therefore, the braking consistency of the whole vehicle can be improved.

However, it should also be noted that trailers that often run on mountain roads or transport heavy goods have high requirements for braking strength. When using disc brakes, they must be equipped with hydraulic buffer, which can reduce the braking pressure of axle brake discs and improve the matching of main trailers.

4. Shock absorption of suspension system.

In the past, trailers used steel plate suspension, and the matching of main suspension is also qualified. But now many semi trailers are equipped with air suspension, such as dangerous goods transportation semi-trailer and three axle fence semi-trailer. At this time, the shock absorption performance of semi-trailer is improved.

But if the tractor is still equipped with steel plate suspension, it is easy to drive the semi-trailer to bump when passing through the pothole road. The large vibration amplitude of the main trailer will also increase the forward resistance of the vehicle.

5. Tire matching and selection.

The type and pattern of tires will also affect the fuel consumption of trailers. Generally, the drive axle of the tractor mostly selects the tires with greater friction, and the semi-trailer mostly selects the tires with low rolling resistance and smooth pattern. In this way, it can not only improve the driving force, but also reduce the form rolling resistance, save oil and increase efficiency.
