The rear axle of a trailer generally refers to the axle mounted on a semi-trailer. It is connected to the frame through suspension, and wheels are mounted at both ends. It does not have drive and steering functions, but only plays the role of bearing the load of the trailer, maintaining the driving of the vehicle, and ensuring the braking of the trailer.

Some car owners believe that compared with the steering axle and the drive axle, the rear axle of the trailer has a relatively simple function, a relatively simple structure, more durable and more resistant to manufacturing. Therefore, it is wrong to continue to use the rear axle after it fails.

Therefore, in the process of daily use, owners must pay special attention to the performance of the vehicle. In case of abnormal noise, hot axle hair, oil leakage, body shaking, unstable high-speed driving, brake deviation and other problems when driving, the vehicle should be repaired in time or directly driven to the maintenance point.

In addition, it is also critical to do a good job in the daily maintenance of the rear axle. If it is a conventional axle, the wheel end system shall be maintained every 50000 km.

1. Dismantle the hub, clean the bearing, journal and hub cavity, scrape the old lubricating grease, clean it with detergent or diesel oil, then clean it with clean water, and finally dry the hub cavity with a clean rag;

2. Check the wheel hub, bearing, bearing race and other parts to see if there are cracks, looseness, loose rollers and other problems. If there are any problems, replace them in time;

3. Check the fit clearance between the bearing inner diameter and the shaft diameter, measure the upper and lower points of the shaft diameter perpendicular to the ground (here is the maximum wear position), and the clearance should be ≤ 0.1mm. If it does not meet the requirements, replace the bearing in time;

4. If the hub and bearing meet the requirements, add new grease between the inner race and roller of the bearing. Be careful not to use too much grease. A thin layer is enough, otherwise it will easily affect the heat dissipation and braking;

5. Refit the hub.

If the vehicle owner uses the maintenance free rear axle, the maintenance cycle can be extended accordingly, which can generally reach 50W or 80W km. However, daily inspection and maintenance are essential, especially for heavy-duty vehicles or vehicles that often run on bad roads, the maintenance cycle should be shortened accordingly.

1. During the use, the vehicle mainly checks whether the internal lubricating oil is above the normal level and whether there is discoloration through the transparent baffle at the shaft end regularly;

2. Every 12 months or 100000 km, use a magnet probe to check whether there are impurities in the lubricating oil through the oil injection hole;

3. Regularly check the wheel hub fasteners for looseness or oil leakage, and check the rear axle for abnormal noise or bearing shaking;

4. Add or replace lubricating oil regularly as required.

Of course, whether the quality of the rear axle itself is up to standard also has a critical impact on the subsequent use.

For example, in the selection of raw materials, high-strength alloy steel is generally used. If the manufacturer tries to select unqualified steel cheaply, the foundation cannot be laid well, and subsequent processing is meaningless;

For another example, in structural design, the main function of the rear axle is to bear weight. If the load cannot be reasonably distributed in the structure, excessive stress concentration will easily occur in subsequent use, so the rear axle design needs to be strict and professional;

The production process and processing technology are also critical. If the treatment is not up to the standard, the performance of the steel can not be fully improved and played. If the process is not up to the standard, it is easy to lead to defects such as sand holes and shrinkage cavities, which affect the strength, toughness or accuracy of the finished product.
