The scientific name of a trailer trailer is "recreational trailer", which strictly speaking is also a type of trailer, but its weight is relatively lighter, and the requirements for driver's license qualifications are correspondingly relaxed. As long as the total mass of the front car and RV is less than 4500kg, obtaining a C6 driver's license can drive on the road in compliance.

Some people have asked: Can the private cars we usually drive tow this type of RV on the road? Of course, the answer is yes. If private cars are not allowed to tow trailer trailers, the sales market may also significantly decrease. After all, for families who already own private cars, it is probably not very many to buy another tractor for trailer trailers.

The range of private car models is also very wide, such as sedans, city SUVs, off-road SUVs, chartered cars, business cars, pickup trucks, etc. In terms of towing RVs, it is generally possible, but there are prerequisites. Firstly, it depends on the vehicle's own conditions, and secondly, it depends on whether it meets the legal requirements.

Whether a private car can tow an RV or what kind of RV it can tow depends on the displacement of the front car, as the displacement determines the torque, which in turn determines the maximum carrying capacity of the vehicle. Moreover, after towing a RV, the fuel consumption of the vehicle will inevitably increase, which goes without saying. In general, a 1.5 displacement motor home can tow a motor home of no more than 600kg, a 1.8 displacement motor home can tow a motor home of no more than 750kg, a 2.0 displacement motor home of no more than 900kg, and a 3.0 displacement motor home of no more than 1200kg.

Of course, this is purely from the perspective of "whether it can be done", and as for "whether it can be done or allowed to be done", it depends on the clear content of the regulations.

According to the relevant provisions of Several Opinions on Promoting the Tourism Development of Self driving recreational vehicle, "small buses installed with traction devices conforming to national standards can tow center axle recreational trailers with a weight of no more than 2500kg, a length of no more than 8000mm, a width of no more than 2500mm, and a height of no more than 4000mm."

Article 56 of the Implementation Regulations of the Road Traffic Safety Law of the People's Republic of China also specifies that motor vehicle traction shall comply with the following provisions:

（1） Truck, semi-trailer tractor and tractor are only allowed to tow one trailer, and the light signal, braking, connection, safety protection and other devices of the trailer shall comply with national standards;

（2） Small passenger vehicles are only allowed to tow recreational trailers or trailers with a total mass of less than 700kg, and trailers are not allowed to carry people;

（3） The load capacity of the trailer towed by a truck shall not exceed the load capacity of the truck itself. Large and medium-sized passenger cars, low-speed truck, tricycles and other motor vehicles shall not tow trailers.

Simply put, small passenger cars (small passenger cars with a standard load of 2-9 people) are only allowed to tow RVs, or trailers with a total mass of less than 700kg (no passengers allowed on trailers). After installing traction devices that meet national standards, the maximum weight that can be towed is a center axle RVs of 2500kg.

It is worth noting that pickup trucks are not small passenger cars. They are a hybrid of passenger cars and trucks, providing both the comfort of a passenger car and the strong power of a cargo truck. They are also more adaptable to complex road conditions in the wild, so they can tow RVs with a total weight of less than 4500kg in front of the vehicle and RVs.

To tow a motorhome on the road, the owner first needs to obtain a C6 driver's license. Although C6 is also a Class C driver's license, it cannot be directly compatible and must be applied for separately for additional driving and re obtained. Currently, only users with A2 driver's licenses can directly compatible with C6.

In addition, it is also necessary to check the owner's driving license. There is a parameter on the top that is "quasi total traction mass". If there is no registered value on the top, it does not have traction qualifications, and towing a trailer on the road is illegal. At present, most private cars in China do not have registered traction quality standards, and only some special off-road vehicles have this qualification.
