Trailer suspension is an important component connecting the trailer frame and axle. Its function is to transmit the force and torque between the wheel and the frame, buffer the impact force transmitted from the uneven road to the frame or body, and reduce the vibration caused thereby, so as to ensure that the vehicle can run smoothly.

Generally, the suspension can be divided into independent suspension and non independent suspension. Generally, the trailer adopts non independent suspension. Common non independent suspensions can be divided into the following four types:

1、 Rigid suspension

The rigid suspension is connected by one axle on the left and right, and the body chassis acts directly on the axle. This kind of damping effect is very poor. The longitudinal unevenness of the road surface is completely adapted by the swing of the balance beam, so as to maintain the relative balance of the front and rear axles.

This kind of suspension is rarely used at present, and is mainly used on the axis of carrying goods at low speed.

2、 Single point suspension

Single point suspension is to reduce the common leaf spring front and rear supports to a single support connected to the vehicle body. Its stress point is shared on the front and rear axles. Compared with ordinary leaf spring suspension, single point suspension has greater bearing capacity.

This kind of suspension is less used on ordinary semi-trailer and is mainly used on heavy vehicles.

3、 Steel plate suspension

Steel plate suspension is our common steel plate spring. Its full name is series connected steel plate spring balanced suspension. It is mainly composed of leaf spring, suspension support (commonly known as lifting lug), connecting rod, U-bolt, etc. the longitudinal force of the vehicle body falls directly on an axle.

The biggest advantages of this suspension are low price, good reliability and convenient maintenance. At present, more than 80% of ordinary semi-trailers in China adopt leaf spring balanced suspension.

4、 Air suspension

The most obvious feature of air suspension is its airbag air spring. The mass of air spring itself is relatively light, the friction of air medium in the airbag is small, there is almost no noise during operation, and its service life is 2-3 times that of leaf spring. However, when the air spring is used, the rod system that can transmit various forces and moments other than the vertical force must be set, so the suspension structure is complex; In addition, the air spring has strict requirements for sealing, and its cost is also high. At present, air suspension is mostly used in high-end fields such as precision instrument transportation, tobacco transportation, hazardous chemical transportation and so on.
