According to the regulations, since January 2019, the new semi-trailer for the transport of dangerous goods must use disc brake; From January 2020, three-axle rail-plate and barrel-type semi-trailers will also be equipped with disc brakes.

Now three years have passed, more and more vehicles have been installed disc brake, can be used to drum brake owners, the daily application of disc brake there are many different, today we will take a simple inventory together.

1. Advantages of disc axle

Compared with drum axle, disc axle is characterized by light weight, fast heat dissipation, sensitive response, strong heat attenuation and water attenuation.

(1) The 360° brake drum was banned, and the self-weight was greatly improved; At the same time, there is no need to install the drenching device after the installation of disc axle, which can further improve the number of vehicles carrying cargo.

(2) The components of the braking system are simplified, the structure is simpler, and the braking response speed is faster. Under emergency braking, ABS and EBS systems can give full play to the optimal performance.

(3) Open wheel end design, high ventilation efficiency, fast heat dissipation, frequent continuous braking is not easy to appear heat attenuation, after the water section of the wheel end is not easy to water, water attenuation resistance performance is good, after the water to step on the brake pedal several times can restore the braking performance.

(4) More convenient maintenance, replacement of friction plate only takes a few minutes, can improve vehicle operation efficiency, reduce maintenance caused by outage time.

2. Disc axle is not suitable for all working conditions

The advantages of disc axle are obvious, but the disadvantages can not be ignored.

Because of its structure, its braking strength is not as strong as the drum brake bridge, which restricts the use of disc axle to a certain extent, some loading mass or overload, partial load, it is not suitable for the use of disc brake bridge.

The open wheel end leads to its brake disc, brake pad and other parts exposed, vulnerable to the impact of splashing soil, sand and stone, to a certain extent as the drum brake bridge resistance, in the mud, Gobi, pothole, bumpy, sand and stone field environment is not very suitable.

3. Precautions for the use of disc axle

(1) The tractor needs to be equipped with hydraulic retarder or other auxiliary braking devices, which is also in line with the provisions of JT/T1178.2 to improve the safety of disc braking.

(2) It is recommended to install ABS/EBS system on the tractor and trailer, which is also a way to improve the braking efficiency of the vehicle and enhance the driving safety. Especially, the disc axle braking response speed is fast, which can give full play to the use efficiency of ABS/EBS.

It should be noted that the purpose of installing liquid softening ABS/EBS is to improve driving safety, not to deal with vehicle inspection, so it is strictly prohibited to release liquid softening auxiliary braking or close ABS/EBS system during driving.

(3) It is prohibited to install water cooling devices. The disc axle can achieve high-speed heat dissipation through air flow. If you are concerned about poor heat dissipation, you can improve it by installing auxiliary braking. It is not allowed to directly spray water to cool down, as the brake disc of the disc axle is completely exposed. If cold water is poured directly under high temperature conditions, it may cause cold cracking and seriously affect driving safety.

(4) Pay attention to self inspection after experiencing poor road conditions. As mentioned earlier, disc axles should not be used in harsh road conditions. If the vehicle is driving on gravel roads, mines, or in the wild, it is important to check the wheel ends and brake discs to see if there is any foreign object damage, in order to prevent potential damage.

(1) Three axle barrier/warehouse barrier vehicles: These two types of trailers are vehicles with clear regulations and must be equipped with disc axles, otherwise it will affect the registration plate or road driving.

(2) Transportation of precision instruments/valuable items: The special characteristics of this type of goods have strict requirements for vehicles and transportation processes. The application of disc axles can make braking more sensitive and stable, avoiding collisions or significant vibrations of the goods.

(3) Transportation of dangerous goods: Dangerous chemical transport vehicles have a higher risk factor compared to ordinary goods vehicles. The use of disc axles can minimize accidents caused by uneven distribution of braking force and slow brake heat dissipation.

(4) Transportation of Green Pass/Flowers/Fragile Goods: This type of goods has high requirements for cargo damage and is suitable for using disc brakes with air suspension. It can effectively buffer bumps from the road in the longitudinal direction and enhance linear stability in the horizontal direction, providing comprehensive protection for the goods.
