What is the difference between a centre axle trailer and a semi-trailer

First of all, let's look at what is a mid axle trailer. As the name suggests, a mid axle trailer is a trailer with an axle in the middle. The trailer we often see now is the semi-trailer with the axle behind. The axle in the middle of the trailer is the center axle trailer. If the axle is at both ends of the trailer, it is the full trailer. Because the axle of the center axle trailer is in the middle, the trailer cannot be balanced, and the trailer outrigger is required to maintain balance.

Due to different vehicle designs, the traction positions of the center axle trailer and the semi-trailer are also different. The full trailer is connected with the main vehicle through the traction hook installed on the frame of the main vehicle, while the traction hook connected between the center axle trailer and the main vehicle is located below the frame.

The semi-trailer needs to be connected with the main vehicle through the traction pin, and the main vehicle needs to bear the weight of the trailer, because the axle of the semi-trailer is generally only in the rear half of the trailer, so the weight of the front half should be borne by the tractor.

There are many kinds of semi trailers, most of which are in the form of special vehicles, such as ordinary breast board, warehouse rail semi-trailer, coal pulling semi-trailer, dump semi-trailer, low flat plate semi-trailer, container flat plate semi-trailer, container frame transportation semi-trailer, van semi-trailer and special semi-trailer.

The center axle trailer is not suitable for heavy-duty transportation of goods. The axle is in the middle of the trailer. If the weight of goods pulled by the trailer is too large, the center axle trailer is not easy to maintain balance.

The main advantage of semi-trailer is that it has strong heavy load capacity, can pull heavy goods, good high-speed driving stability, easy to match with tractor, and the driving difficulty is much lower than that of center axle trailer.

In foreign countries, the middle axle trailer is more common than that in China. Compared with the domestic road freight environment, the domestic road freight environment is very good and can be used on any road. In some countries, the ownership of full trailers is even similar to that of semi trailers. Most of the domestic center axle trailers are used in RV or small trailer. In terms of freight, they are mainly semi-trailer.
